Mount Field National Park
The Derwent Valley’s greatest drawcard is the Mount Field National Park situated only thirty minutes or so from New Norfolk. The Park is the oldest National Park in Australia and contains the iconic Russell Falls , which is reached via an easy 20 minute track. Further along you can continue on to Horseshoe Falls, but this requires a little more effort with a climb up the rocks, but is worth the trouble. The 16km drive up the road behind the Visitor Centre to Lake Dobson offers terrific views and a variety of walks. The Rangers at the Parks Information Centre can help with maps and routes that might suit your level of walking.
