The Styx Forest
- Giant Tree in the Styx Forest by Graham Pettigrove
- Along the walk around the Giant Tree Reserve by Graham Pettigrove
A 10 minute drive towards Strathgordon along the Gordon River road, and you will be at the entrance to the Styx Forest, the home of the Giant Trees from which our place takes its name.
18km further on will bring you to the Big Tree Reserve. These trees are the tallest flowering plants in the world – the Eucalyptus Regnans.
These trees are truly awe-inspiring and are a must-see while you are here. Some of these trees tower as much as 32 storeys and are more than 400 years old. They are the world’s tallest hardwood trees, known as swamp gums or mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans). There is a Boardwalk at the Forestry Big Tree Reserve where you can see examples of these trees, where they show you the Big Tree and the even Bigger Tree!
